Welsh Smoking Ban
The Smoke-free Premises (Wales) Regulations 2007 come into effect on Monday 2nd April 2007. From this date smoking will no longer be permitted in any enclosed or substantially enclosed premises or vehicles that are open to the public including taxis, pubs, restaurants and all places of work (some exceptions apply including designated smoking rooms in hotels or residential nursing homes).
Obligations:
Display specific signage in prominent positions visible to all employees, customers and visitors.
Premises signage must contain a smoking prohibition sign, of a minimum size of 160x230mm. The following wording must appear on the sign “Mae ysmygu yn y fangre hon yn erbyn y gyfraith. It is against the law to smoke in these premises.”
All transport for members of the public or vehicles used for work by more than one person (even if the persons who work there do so at different times or only intermittently) need to display a sign in a prominent position containing a smoking prohibition symbol of at least 75mm diameter in each compartment that could carry passengers. For signs applied to glass, a clear background is required.
